Gentleman Jack by Christina James
Over a period of several months, a great deal of expensive machinery is stolen from farms in South Lincolnshire and DI Tim Yates and DS Juliet Armstrong are under extreme pressure from the wealthy local farming community to arrest the culprits. Jack Fovargue, a well-respected agricultural entrepreneur, is assaulted in the street, but seems reluctant to help the police apprehend his assailant. Visiting the remote farm complex which acts as base for several of Fovargue’s businesses and is home to Jack and his wife Susie and two young children, Tim thinks he sees a stolen quad disappearing into the distance. Shortly afterwards, a headless body is fished out of the Fossdyke canal, near Lincoln. The discovery of more bodies follows. It emerges that a mysterious and ruthless killer is at work, someone who may be operating in an area much wider than the Fens.
