Rooted in Dishonour
Eighteen-year-old Ayesha Verma, the daughter of Indian immigrants, is caught between two worlds. Her parents support her wish to become highly educated, but they are also determined she shall marry early, to an Indian cousin much older than she. A few days after the cousin arrives in the UK, Ayesha vanishes. DI Tim Yates is convinced she has been the victim of a family ‘honour killing’, because she has rebelled against the arranged marriage, although there is no evidence to support this. Nevertheless, the police investigation continues to be heavily influenced by the theory – Tim Yates travels to India to interview the cousin – until the disappearance of another girl forces them to doubt it. Precious time has now been lost: are the two girls still alive?
Rooted in Dishonour reintroduces Peter Prance, the villain who first appeared in In the Family and proved highly popular with readers.
